because laxmi is Godess of money and when ram bhagwan come ayodhya after 14years then all gods and godess came and laxmi maa convert the state where all people are rich and happy

laxmi is worshipped on diwali as she is the goddess of wealth...actually diwali is celebrated because after 14 days God Ram come to Ayodhaya with his wife Sita..so all the people celebrate it with lights...other story is God krishna and his wife satyabhama kill the evil Narkasur ...so all the people think that darkness is replaced by light in their lives so they celebrate diwali
