Lime tower is used to collect ammonia gas because both lime as well as ammonia are basic in nature and hence do not react with each other.

  • Ammonia is a basic gas.
  • Acidic dehydrating agents like Conc. sulfuric acid and penta phosphorous oxide cannot be used to collect ammonia gas since ammonia reacts with these agents to give a salt.
