Biodiversity, or variety in wildlife is very essential in the sustainability of environment and ecosystems. The variety of flora and fauna helps in the smooth running of different units of an ecosystem and maintaining the balance of the ecosystem. The loss of even a single species will hamper the balance and smooth running of the ecosystem which will disturb the natural processes of the region. This will affect the attempts of sustainable development which depends upon the natural processes, conditions and type of ecosystem in that area. Therefore conservation of biodiversity is important for sustainable development and the loss of it will be considered as a threat

Under sustainable development there is a lot of deforestation. Due to deforestation there is loss of the natural habitat.

Explanation:

  • In those forests due to lack of space and due to interference with human beings many unique species lose their life.
  • Also a large number of unique species of plants are lost from Earth due to deforestation.
  • This deforestation takes place due to requirement of land for construction of industries and offices. Hence there is a threat of loss of biodiversity.
