Lumbering is an important activity in the coniferous belt as:
1. It an important souce of livelihood for the people though it is carried out only during winter. Some lumberjacks even work as farmers during the summer months.
2. Lumbering is the backbone of the regions industrial economy.
3. It is carried out in the coniferous belt as this belt contains softwood trees like pine, spruce, larch, cedar, maple, birch and poplar which are of great use in many ways.

Hope this is helpful.
