Why is lysosome hydrolytic in function?

lysosomes are hydrolytic so that it digest the phagosome and pinosome in simple substances which can be absorbed by the cytoplasm of cell .after hydrolysis leftover undigested foo remains in vacoule called as residual body .lysosome also hydolses old cytoplasmic organelles like mitochondria etc in state of starvation to supply energy
