Why is mag moment perpendicular to field in diamagnetism?

(due to the induced currents as according to lenz's law) so a weak resultant magnetic moment is developed in opposite direction to the external field. For example : U can observe that, When that bar is suspended freely between two poles of the magnet the axis of the bar becomes perpendicular to magnetic field.
