Answer:》》》》》

In +2 oxidation state, two valence shell electrons are easily removed (3s2), and Mg2+ is easily attained. In +3 oxidation state (Mg 3+), an additional electron from the inner 2p shell with inert configuration of Neon will have to be removed. This requires a large amount of energy, therefore it does not happen easily.
