Most magnifying glasses are double-convex lenses and are used to make objects appear larger. When these bent rays reach the eye they make the object appear much larger than it actually is. But they aren't essential as every  object need not to be seen from a Magnifying Glass as they are mostly used in laboratories and not in daily or day-to-day life.
