mahmud of ghazni was called idol breaker because  he attacked somnath temple in gujrat .when his soldiers came to the temple they were bombshelled when they saw the flying  idol (there were 4 pillars around) when they told mahmud ghazni he solved the problem by breaking one pillar as there was magnet in the pillars because of which the idol fel down and broke.
