Why is marble used in making buildings but not chalk though both of them are formed from the same mineral calcite

marble is used in making buildings but not chalk because marble is stronger/thicker than chalk whereas chalk is light in weight

Both marble and chalk are created from calcium carbonate compound.

But due to the physical characteristics difference of this two materials,only marble is used in building making.

Chalk is very fragile and soaks water which is not good for making buildings on the other hand, marble is very hard and water repellent.

That's why we use marble for building making.
