According to the law of conservation of mass, in all physical and chemcial changes total mass of the system remains constant i.e. in a physical or chemical change, mass can neither created nor be destoryed.

That's why mass has to be conserved in chemical reaction to fulfill law of conservation of mass.

Total mass of reactant = Total mass of product

In chemcial equation, mass is conserved by balancing the equation.

Balancing of chemcial equations :- It is the process of making the number of different types of elements equal on both side of the equation.
