Explanation:

The process of formation of gametes from specialised cells called meiocytes is known as gametogenesis . As the gametes are haploid cells and meiocytes are diploid cells thus, during gametogenesis , only half of the genetic material should reach the gametes from the meiocytes . This can be achieved only by the meiotic division . So, both gametogenesis and meiosis are always interlinked .
