Mendel got interested in the breeding of Pisum sativum (garden pea). The work of Mendel and others who followed him gave an idea of inheritance patterns. In the mid-nineteenth century, Mendel hybridized the pea plants for continuing seven years ( from 1856 to 1863) and proposed the law of inheritance in living organisms. It was the first time mathematical logic and statistical analysis used in the biology. He pollinated the pea plant artificially and analyzed the characters of offsprings.
