Mercury is preferred in barometer because mercury has high density so it will be easier to measure atmospheric pressure and a shorter barometer can be easily used. If water is used instead of mercury then we have to use a 13 times longer barometer and that is very inconvenient .

When we are sucking the lemon soda we are reducing our pressure of our mouth and we know that the molecules of high pressure always towards low pressure region so the lemon soda molecules moves our mouth and then it becomes possible to drink the lemon soda .
