why is methane called as the simplest carbon compound??

the simplest organic compound means which has only carbon and hydrogen in it and methane in ch4 (carbon hydrogen compound)

nehaaa: see there r many other hydrocarbons also...but methane is simplest of all because 1 carbon and four hydrogens...this is the least ne..see as u said ther r many other hydrocarbons like ethane and it has 2 carbon atoms and four hydrogens...as metane has the least number it is considered to be simplest....i m not sure but hope it helps u...
raj451: but ethyne C2H2 has 4 atoms in total which is less than methane with 5 atoms.... so ??
