Why is milk of magnesia used as an antacid?

Milk of Magnesia also reduces stomach acid, and increases water in the intestines which may induce defecation. Milk of Magnesia isused as a laxative to relieve occasional constipation (irregularity) and as an antacidto relieve indigestion, sour stomach, and heartburn.
