Why is mitochondria called the power house for the cell

Because mitochondria has oxysomes and in haed of oxysomes energy from food by oxidation is manufactured in the form of ATP

  • During cellular respiration, ATP molecules are produced and get accumulated in the mitochondria.

  • Only mitochondria can convert pyruvate into carbon dioxide and water during cell respiration.

  • Therefore, mitochondria are called as 'power house of cell'.
