why is mitochondria known as the powerhouse of the cell?

Mitochondria is called as powerhouse of cells as the energy production in cellular respiration takes place in it only. All chemical reactions that are involved in cellular respiration takes place in the mitochondria and energy is generated in the form of ATP (Adenosine triphosphate) molecules.
