Much less energy is released during anaerobic respiration than during aerobic respiration. This is because the breakdown of glucose is incomplete. Anaerobic respirationproduces an oxygen debt. This is the amount of oxygen needed to oxidise lactic acid to carbon dioxide and water.

Dear Students,

Aerobic respiration requires energy while anaerobic respiration doesnt.

# Aerobic respiration releases more energy than anaerobic respiration -

  • In anaerobic respiration, glucose breakdown is incomplete, so less energy is released.
  • In aerobic respiration, complete breakdown of glucose takes place, therefore more energy is released.
  • Aerobic respiration releases 38 ATPs, which is 19 times greater than 2 ATPs that are released during anaerobic respiration.

Hope this helps you. Keep asking.
