because movement originally came form the living organisms. It is the very first criteria to decide whether an object is living or non-living. Before the invention of motors or any other components which causes motion, only living organisms were able to move by themselves. The movement can also be observed in terms of locomotion(which is moving from one place to other), growth, etc. There are various types of movement which is present in living things and are not present in non living things(such as growth). That is why biologists have taken movement as a criteria to distinguish between living and non-living things.

Movement is considered as a criteria for identifying whether someone is alive because the movement is due to reflex action from brain which results in particular action in the form of speech, work, walking and other activities.

EXPLANATION:

Life system includes mobility, action and understanding capacity of an individual. The movement gives an evidence that the life system still exist.  Organ like brain and heart plays the crucial activities like the brain action tends the blood from heart to activate the voluntary actions and hence this proves the life is still existing.
