A NPN transistor has electrons as majority charge carriers whereas the PNP transistor has holes as majority charge carrier. The mobility of electrons is better than mobility of holes. ... mobility of electrons is more than hole,so as a result npn transistor are faster than pnp that's why they are preferred..

N-P-N transistor preferred over P-N-P transistor because, The majority of the P-N-P carriers are holes and the majority of the N-P-N carriers are electrons. The mobility of holes is not fast as the mobility of electrons.

Explanation:

  • we have different transistors being used for different experiments and we know them as P-N-P transistor and other being N-P-N transistor.
  • However we have also seen that to conduct any small to big experiment the transistor basically used is always N-P-N.
  • This is because the P-N-P transistor has two "p diodes" which means that the majority carriers of charge would be holes, While N-P-N transistor has two "n diodes" which means the majority carriers here are the electrons and the mobility of holes is not as fast as electrons hence NPN is considered.
