While Nehru was in jail, his daughter Indira Gandhi was a teenager and he did not want her to be deprived of his upbringing.
So, he used to write letters to her to teach her good moral values and social awareness.
But he was worried that the world is huge and full of mysteries. Sermonising through letters is not enough. He wanted to make his daughter learned through discussing and talking.
