YES THE NEWTON'S FIRST LAW IS ALSO KNOWN AS THE LAW OF INERTIA BECAUSE IT DEFINES THE AMOUNT OF INERTIA OF THE BODY AT REST OR AT MOTION ,INERTIA IS OF THREE TYPES WHICH SHOWS THE INABILITY OF A BODY TO CONTINUE IN THE STATE OF REST OR MOTION .
ACCORDING TO THE FIRST LAW OF NEWTON A BODY CONTINUES TO BE IN THE STATE OF REST OR UNIFORM MOTION UNTIL AND UNLESS AN EXTERNAL UNBALANCED FORCE IS APPLIED TO IT .

Answer:
A body continues to be in its state of rest or of uniform motion in a straight line unless an external force is applied to it.
This is also termed the law of inertia because it demonstrates that every material body has a property by which it resists the change in its state of rest or its state of motion. This property of the body is called inertia.
Explanation:
- Galileo arrived at a new insight into motion which states that "The state of rest and the state of uniform linear motion (motion with constant velocity) are equivalent."
- In both these cases, there is no net force acting on the body i.e. external force acting on the body is nil.
- Thus, it is erroneous to expect that a net force is expected to keep a body in uniform motion.
- To sum up, if the net external force is zero, a body very still keeps on leftover and a body moving keeps on moving with a uniform velocity.
- This property of the body is called inertia, which refers to "resistance to change".
- A body does not change its state of rest or uniform motion unless an external force compels it to change that state. i.e. a body always remains in its unaltered state.
- As per Newton’s first law of motion, a body continues to be in its state of rest or of uniform motion in a straight line unless an external force is applied to it.
- It refers to the law of inertia because it says that every material body has the property called inertia by which it resists the change in its state of rest or its state of motion.
Therefore, Newton’s first law of motion is also called the ‘Law of Inertia’.
