Most heating elements usenichrome 80/20 (80% nickel, 20% chromium) wire, ribbon, or strip. Nichrome80/20 is an ideal material, because it has relatively high resistance and forms an adherent layer of chromium oxide when it isheated for the first time.
Nichrome is used as a heating element because it has high physical strength at high temperatures, has a resistivity that is practical for elements operating at AC line voltage, and is corrosion resistant when operated at elevated temperatures in a normal atmosphere.
