Nitrogen's Atomic Number is 7 whereas Phosphorus' Atomic Number is 14, therefore the electronic configuration of nitrogen is 2,5 and for phosphorus is 2,8,4.
That is, Phosphorus has three shells and Nitrogen has only two.
