Most of the area in the "Northern hemisphere" is land , while most of the area in the "southern hemisphere" is water.  

Only two continents are entirely in the "Southern Hemisphere" - Australia and  Antarctica. All other continents i.e. Europe, Africa, North America, nearly all Asia & most of south America are located in northern hemisphere. Most of the "Pacific ocean" and the "Indian ocean" are in the "southern hemisphere".

That’s why "northern hemisphere" is called "land hemisphere" and southern hemisphere called water hemisphere.
