Why is northern plains called composite plains

This is because northern plains is made upon alluvial soil. Alluvial soil is deposited onto the northern plains because of 3 Himalayan river system: Ganga, Bhramaputra and Indus. Hence it is called deposited plains.

a. Northern plains were formed as a result of deposition of alluvium in a vast basin lying at the foothills to the south of the Himalayas from three major river system that is Ganga, Brahmaputra , Indus.
b. Sediments were also filled by the tributaries of these rivers. These rivers perform depositional task, as they flow down and in the lower course they form riverine islands.
c. These rivers also form distributaries as the flow down, because deposition of silt.

d. The Northern plains with its rich soil cover is the agriculturally most fertile and productive land.
