In the Chinua Achebe's "Things Fall Apart", Okonkwo is punished by Ezeani, the priest of the earth goddess because he beat his wife during the Week of Peace.  Okonkwo beats his third wife during the peace weak because as she doesn't arrive home on time to cook the midday meal. However, Okonkwo breaks the law of the week of peace and is punished by Ezeani.

The earth goddess becomes angry and bashes him for violating the law. Also, the earth goddess gives instruction to him for rightening his wrongs.
