A one-party system is not a democracy at all, since you get people sponsored by the same organization every single time. Even when such systems allow competition in theory there are usually policies and practices which skew the system and create unfair, uncompetitive elections. It may be a little bit more democratic if there is a primary to choose the candidates or if the main party fields multiple contenders for office, but even then those are still people chosen according to the ideology of a single party.

Answer:

One party system is not good for democracy as it violates the basic key features of democracy.

  • In One party system there is No Choice available to people. They have only one option. It violates the fact that in a democracy one should have a choice to choose from.
  • There is No Competition. The same party rules over and over. In a democracy the ruling party must have a fair chance of losing.
  • There will be No Opposition, since it will be only one party, no one will be able to criticize the ruling party. Opposition is must for a healthy democracy.
  • Countries having one party system can also seem like Dictatorship.

Such countries cannot be called a democracy.
