The undulating relief and hard rocks make it difficult to dig canals and Wells. There is a little percolation of rain water due to hard rock structure and ground water is not available in large quantities. Most of the rivers in this region are seasonal and dry up in summer season

it only has the non personal rivers like krishna ,godavari,kaveri etc. so the farmers in tamilnadu tend to use open well for their irrigation
it is also an ancient method . during the monsoon water get filled in it p and can be used later
