A child's family called their first school because

  • Their family serves as their "first school." An infant, for example, learns his or her first words by listening to his or her parents, siblings, and older people and imitating the sounds they hear.
  • A baby can learn to read at a young age if his or her parents or others read to him or her. If a parent teaches their child, he or she will learn animal names and colors.
  • Of course, none of this is effective unless the family actively engages in activities such as reading to the infant or pointing out things.
