Oxytocin helps in the contraction of the smooth muscles of the uterus during child birth, and milk ejection from mammary glands after child birth. there fore it is called as birth hormone

swastik23: because oxytocin relaxes the muscles of the mother and makes it easier for the baby to be delivered

Oxytocin is a hormone secreted from the posterior lobe of the pituitary gland in females.
During parturition or childbirth, this hormone is secreted in more amount. This hormone stimulates forceful contraction of the uterus and cervix, facilitating childbirth. Hence this hormone is known as birth hormone.
