manavjaison: hey what is ur question, please elaborate
Keshav6325325: like to plot a graph of 2x-4 on a cartesian plane, it is taken as y=2x-4. why?

Heya friend,
Now, I understood your point,

QUESTION - Why 2x - 4 = y is taken to get the value of x.

The simple reason is that there are two axis present on the Cartesian plane namely X axis and Y axis, so to get the value of X for e.g. in 2x - 4, there must be something on the right hand side from which  the equation gets added or subtracted. For eg -
2x - 4 = y
2x - y = 4
2x = 4 + y
x   = 4 + y / 2

So, in this we can easily put some random value of Y and get the value of X too  and this we would mark on the cartesian plane.

Thank you!!!
