Pancreas is called an exo-endocrine gland because it serves an vital role as both duct (exocrine) and ductless (endocrine) gland. As a duct gland, its secretion (pancreatic juice) is poured into the duodenum for digestion. As a ductless gland, it has special group of cells which secretes important hormones called Islets of Langerhans beneficial in their own way and scattered everywhere in this entire gland. Islets of Langerhans secretes three hormones namely Insulin, Glucagon and Somatostatin from three different cells called Beta, Alpha and Delta cells respectively.
