Why is per capita consumption of electricity is considered as an index of development?
Answers
Electricity is used in everyday life, in some form or the other. It is used to light bulbs for reading and working in the dark. It is used to run domestic appliances, agricultural pumps and all kinds of machinery. Electricity is used in transport and health care.
When more electricity is used, it may be inferred that most, or all of the above are happening or is being put to use, which is a sign of development. Hence Per Capita consumption of electricity may be considered an index of development.
Hi there,
The amount of consumption of electricity in a country means that how much of the total population has access of electricity. Since electricity is the most important part of a developing country, the more the areas are covered, the more the country is acing towards development.
Due to this reason, electricity has become one of the index through which development of a country is measured.
