Petroleum is called black oil because it ces with many constituents mix with it that has its commercial (market value).
The constituents are petroleum gas(LPG),petrol,diesel ,lubricating oil ,kerosene oil,paraffin wax and bitumen.

Due to its commercial values Petroleum or crude oil is known as the black gold (it is believed they are as valuable as gold). In other words, the color of Petroleum is black and it is very expensive and useful in not just India but all around the world or we can say it has a high commercial value throughout the world, due to these two qualities it is known as the black gold.
