Sodium is very reactive with oxygen. If immersed in water then it will catch fire because :-
- The formula of water is H20 and oxygen is there which will provide the necessary condition for combustion.
- Oxygen is a gas that usually gets dissolved in water. Hence,sodium will react vigorously.
Hence, Sodium cannot be stored in Water.

Phosphorus is stored in water because phosphorus is very reactive non metal. It catches fire if exposed to air. To prevent the contact of phosphorus with atmospheric oxygen,it is stored in water. Whereas,sodium is very reactive.
