Phosphorus is stored in water because phosphorus is very reactive non metal. It catches fire if exposed to air. To prevent the contact of phosphorus with atmospheric oxygen,it is stored in water. Whereas, sodium is very reactive.

Answer:

phosphorus vigorously reacts with air to give out fire. It is a highly exothermic reaction that could cause harm... Therefore it is stored in water because it does not reacts with water....

Similarly sodium reacts with water to give a lot of heat.. Therefore it is not stored in water but in kerosene
