Physical adsorption works thanks to Van der Waals forces. These are the attractive forces between molecules. So as one layer of molecules is adsorbed it can weakly attract and hold on to the second layer and so on up to a limit.

Answer:
physical adsorption is multilayeres whereas chemisorption is monolayered. In physical adsorption occurs due to inter-molecular attractive forces between the adsorbate and adsorbent.
