Why is plaster of paris is used to protect broken bones?

Because it is the hardest material after diamond hence it doesn't changes it's shape and provide a good support to the bones and hence it provides protection for bones...

This use is based on the fact that when plaster of paris is mixed with a proper quantity of water,it sets into a hard mass.In this way,it keeps bone joints in a fixed position.
