Our Constitution framers hailed from almost all corners of India. They knew and had suffered various challenges they faced and coming together at one platform they saw that all the issues and challenges and problems they faced differed from region to region. It would still not have been a major issue had India not been such a vast country.
They observed constitutions of many other countries and were impressed by the division of powers between the State and Central government in the USA. This is one of the major features of a federal constitution.
Our Founding Fathers prepared three lists, Union, State and Concurrent, to address this issue and we now have division of powers with supremacy of the Union.
