In order to practice the multi-cropping and to maintain food sufficiency, the Punjab caught in the vicious circle of rice-wheat crop rotation.

EXPLANATION:

The rice, as well as, the wheat cropping methodology is one of the major cornerstones in providing and satisfying India’s food sufficiency. But, the requirements in growing and developing these two crops (wheat and rice) are entirely different. They both should have different temperature and should grow in different climatic conditions.

Rice can be grown best in conditions, where the water is stagnant. Whereas, wheat has to be grown under the condition, where there should be balance in soil (like it has proper moisture, thermal heat, air, etc). This crop rotation, is usually been done to make the soil aerobic to anaerobic and vice versa.
