Why is radioactive iodine contraidicated in thyrois opthalmopathy

In certain cases (eg, in pregnant patients with severehyperthyroidism), thyroidectomy may be indicated becauseradioactive iodine and antithyroid medications may becontraindicated. It generally is reserved for patients with large goiters with or without compressive symptoms.
