Aquatic animals take in the oxygen dissolved in water. The amount of dissolved oxygen in water is fairly low compared to the amount of oxygen in the air. Therefore, rate of breathing in aquatic organisms ismuch faster than in terrestrial organisms.

Because in air configuration 02 is present 21% so we get sufficient o2 in one breath but in water 02 is present in very low amount that's why they take breath very fast
