Reaction of calcium with water is less violent because :

Calcium is a metal which belongs to group 2 [ Alkaline earth metals] where the reactivity rate with water is less compared to group 1 metals like sodium and potassium.

When piece of calcium metal is dropped in   water  , we observe that after some time, bubbles of hydrogen gas is produced and a white precipitate of calcium hydroxide is produced .

Note : Heat released during reaction is not sufficient for hydrogen to catch fire,.

Ca +H2O------> Ca(OH)2 +H2
