Reaction of calcium with water is less violent because :
Calcium is a metal which belongs to group 2 [ Alkaline earth metals] where the reactivity rate with water is less compared to group 1 metals like sodium and potassium.
When piece of calcium metal is dropped in water , we observe that after some time, bubbles of hydrogen gas is produced and a white precipitate of calcium hydroxide is produced .
Note : Heat released during reaction is not sufficient for hydrogen to catch fire,.
Ca +H2O------> Ca(OH)2 +H2
