why is reaction of Na with H2O is explosive whereas Ca with H2O is not?

sodium reacts with water to form sodium hydroxide and as sodium is more reactive than calcium the reaction is less violent the hydrogen gas evolved stick to the surface of calcium and as a result calcium floats on the surface
