it is so because respiration is a process of oxidative broke down of food to get energy.

exothermic reaction is a reaction which gives energy out

so in respiration energy is given out

Exothermic reaction are those reaction in which energy is evolved.


Respiration is considered as exothermic reaction because during the process of respiration energy is evolved . For ex. If we eat potato it contains large amount of glucose . These glucose get oxidised with oxygen and release energy in the form of ATP molecule .

Hence respiration is considered as exothermic reaction
