the process by which digested food is oxidised to release energy is called respiration it takes place inside the cell in the energy is stored in form of ATP molecules it is an exothermic reaction bcoz energy is released in exothermic reaction

Respiration is an exothermic process because in respiration Carbon dioxide present in food breaks down to form glucose. This glucose combines with Oxygen in the cells of our body and releases high amount of energy.
The reaction involves :
C6H12O6 + 6O2 →6CO2 + 6H2O + Energy
Here, C6H12O6 = Glucose, O2 = Oxygen gas, CO2 = Carbon dioxide and H2O = Water.
