Here is your answer
Mate!!
Reason:-
We need energy to stay alive.We get this energy from the food we eat. During digestion, the food is broken down to simple substances.
For example:-
Rice,Potatoes etc.
contains starch which is broken down to glucose.During respiration,glucose is oxidized to CO2 and H2O with the help of oxygen inhaled during respiration. Energy is involved in this process:-
C6H12O6 (aq) + 6O2 (g) --------------------> 6CO2 (g) + 6H2O (l) + heat
