Carbohydrates present in food are broken down to form glucose. This glucose combines with Oxygen in the cells of our body and provides energy. Thisreaction is known as respiration. Hence, respiration is consideredas an exothermic reaction.

This glucose combines with Oxygen in the cells of our body and provides energy. This reaction is known as respiration.

C6 H12O6 + 6 02 (g) ? 6 CO2 (g) + 6H2O (l) + energy
Glucose

Hence, respiration is considered as an exothermic reaction.
